Give each diner about 24 in of table edge, then add 36 in behind every side so the chairs slide out. A table for six around 65 by 35 in needs a patio of about 11.5 by 9 ft. Type yours below and see which sets fit.

Round vs rectangular

A round or square table keeps everyone in one conversation and fits a square patio or a corner. A rectangle seats more along a wall or a long deck. An extension table does both: short on weeknights, long when guests come.

Which shape fits a small patio

For four on a small patio, a 42 or 47 in square table with chairs tucked in takes the least room: about 114 to 119 in square with the chairs pulled out.

Does a bigger table always seat more

No. Table legs and chair arms decide too. The Windsor 47 in square table seats four armchairs or six slim folding chairs.
