How often should I oil teak
Anderson calls teak oil a temporary fix that needs a fresh coat about monthly to hold the golden color, and recommends a teak sealer, reapplied about once a year, instead.
Does oil make teak last longer
Anderson notes teak oil keeps the color but does not extend the life of the wood, which is durable on its own.
Should I clean first
Yes, clean and dry the teak before oiling for an even finish.
Is teak oil made from teak
No. Anderson Teak says teak oil is not made from teak. Star brite describes its Golden Teak Oil as a blend of polymers and tung oil, and its safety data sheet lists 60 to 80 percent hydrocarbon solvent.
What is in Star brite teak cleaner
Its safety data sheet lists oxalic acid and glycolic acid at 5 to 10 percent each and warns of serious eye damage. Wear gloves and eye protection.
How long does Star brite teak oil take to dry
Star brite does not publish a dry time. Its directions: apply to clean, dry teak above 50 °F, leave it 5 minutes, wipe off the excess, and add a second coat on very porous wood.
Can I use teak sealer over teak oil
Neither Star brite nor Anderson says. Star brite writes only that its sealer works best on freshly cleaned or new wood.
